Just an idea, I'm not sure we need a Members Lounge section, nobody posts in the Stickys and most of the threads are birthday threads which are easily missed if a member doesn't log in, which could be posted in General Chat. What do you think?

I like the Members Lounge,it's private...like it should be.

I like the fact that unless you are a member, nobody can see it.
General Chat anybody can see, even the people you don't want to see it.

Some (not you Steve) just might not care to take the time to check it out.
I think if someone has a birthday and it's posted there should be a PM.
It could say something like 'your birthday was remembered check it out.'

It only a suggestion, maybe that will get people to check it out more often.

If anybody has any others idea.

I don't really think that's a good idea. That would actually bother me. I wouldn't like being told where to look when I sign in. If a thread gets missed, tough You've just reminded me of the .com days when people used to tell me how to moderate when I was the moderator and not them

As for the section... I don't have a problem with it. It's just an extra section. I won't go into specifics but someone did post something rather personal in there recently and I'll probably post something in there next year when I have my surgery as I don't want unregistered randoms knowing things. So I think it can stay.

I really like the Members Lounge. It's like the Team Locker Room or something.

Personally, I do think the Mods should update birthdays as they come up there as a standard action.

Thinking I'm probably going to get some responses on that one.

And - it took me four attempts to post this. What is up with the site this past month?

In the Members section, sometimes we miss a birthday on the birthday calendar.
I figure if the Mods look at the birthday calendar each day and update the site with the appropriate "Happy Birthday" post then we won't miss any.

That doesn't necessarily need to be done by a mod though, does it?

No necessarily, no, but you all are driving the bus. I figure it's just good PR to post someone's BD if they added it to the list.

I just posted two when I saw they were missed by a few days. I think the members would have been happy to see their birthday notes if they had come on that day instead of seeing it late.

Just being tidy.

One of those members has left the forum. Their last post was November last year.

Something else that I've just thought about - birthday threads are usually done by a friend of the person having the birthday. I think if it were just done by some moderator just automatically doing it, it wouldn't feel as special.

to be perfectly and brutally honest, why should anyone bother to make a birthday thread for a member who even be f*cking bothered to come on here anymore? it makes no sense, if they cant be ar$ed to post then tough luck to them.

I just look at it this way - it's civil to wish someone a positive note like a happy BD and might keep them here or encourage more activity. Just one of those team building exercises.

Isn't one of the refrains on the In-Betweeners something like "good manners don't cost anything"?

Ok here are my thoughts about this.

1. waaaaaay back on .com birthday threads were only made by friends of people. That's just how it was done and people still stuck around.

2. Most people in that list do not visit the forum anymore.

3. Most people do not even check the members section.

4. Why does it need to be done by a mod? After dealing with problem members, sorting out bugs this place has, moving threads, closing dupes and just generally trying to make this place run as smooth as possible you want to give us another job to do? If this is a "community" it shouldn't need to only be done by the people "driving the bus".

I'm back...

"team building exercise" makes it sound like a job.

clearly they dont care for the forum so they dont visit, there is no need to make a pointless thread which they wont see or wont even post in.

^I think the mods essentially do have a part-time, unpaid, voluntary job to keep this site running (see GJ's item 4 in the email above). And it's appreciated.

There's another angle to why mods writing up birthday greetings wouldn't be the best approach after looking at the latest emails - it could present a conflict. Imagine a scenario where a member's been placed on warning by the mods and then their birthday pops up and the same mod writes up a happy birthday thread. Seems a bit akward.

Concept withdrawn from the table.

" bus " ...I thought this was a boat. :giggle:

I must have made a wrong transfer somewhere down the line.

Anyway...yes birthday threads should be posted by friends as Mel said.
